Brenda Lowe Silva

I married in Oct. 1967..my husband was in the Air Force ..lived in Florida (where my dayghter wa born ) for two years,,then lived in Holland (where my twins were born ) for three years..returned to New Bedford...worked as a paraprofessional for a while...took night courses...Finally received my teaching certificate...discovered working with autistic children my passion ( besides being a wife and mother) Left the school system to work for a behavioral psychologist . Worked within the schools in New Bedford and Fairhaven , as well as private residences..became involved with Facilitated Communication..Oh...Got divorced....which turned out to be a Godsend as i was able to commit more time to my work...which paid off immensely.. i was chosen National Teacher of th Year by the Autism society of America in 1995....a great honor...continued working in this area until my first grandchild arrived, (Meaghan, born in 1999) ..started working part time to spend time with her...All of my children moved to Orlando.Fl. I now have 4 grandchildre,Meaghan,Joshua,Cameron , and Madison. I retired from full time work,but still work part time with a young woman with autism and CP...very rewarding...Spend my time between here and FL. now...I LOVE being a Grandma !!!! I still love music and dancing...just don.t seem to get out as often as i would like to .

i just loved my time at New Bedford High...I had a lot of friends and good times ....loved Thursday nights downtown, and the "Y" on Friday ...I always tried to have good experiences in all my classes, and like to think I brought some fun into each of my classes. Had lots of silly times with lots of friends ! :)
