Marsha was in a lot of my classes at NBHS.  She was active in NBHS school functions and she was a good friend to all who knew her.  Rest in Peace Marsha.

Marsha M. Hinkley, Age 74 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 8th, 2022.

Born in New Bedford in 1947, Marsha was the daughter of the late Gertrude (Craven) and Charles R. Hinkley. She grew up on Brownell St., where she would reside, in the family home, for the entirety of her life. Marsha graduated from New Bedford High School in 1965 and attended a small college in Boston afterward.

Marsha’s professional life was very important to her. She began working at Cooper Insurance Agency on Union Street in 1978. She loved her job and took pride in what she did. She would continue working at the Agency all the way until her retirement in 2018. She considered her colleagues and clients to be a very special part of her life.

Marsha loved the beach and was a lifelong member at Anthony’s Beach Association in Dartmouth, MA. Many wonderful memories were made there. Marsha spent much of her vacation time in Florida, visiting her Brother, Peter, his wife Elaine and their three children, Jennifer, Liza and Jeffrey with whom she shared an incredibly close relationship.

She will be remembered as a loving, smart and classy woman who was treasured by her family and friends. Someone you could always count on and come to for sound advice. She will be forever loved and forever missed.

Marsha is survived by her life partner, Wayne Bentley of New Bedford. Her two Brothers, Richard W. Hinkley of New Bedford and Peter C. Hinkley of Palm Bay, FL. Four beloved nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and great nephews. Lastly, her neighbors and friends on Brownell Street.

Her private arrangements were under the direction of the Wilson Chapel of New Bedford, MA.

Condolences may be shared with the family on the obituary page of their website:

Marsha was a fine lady. I knew her from way before NBHS. And when I came back to NB in 1979, she was our insurance agent's go to person, office manager. Smart, very professional, kind, understanding and intelligent. My condolences to her family.

So sorry to hear of Marsha's passing. She was a lovely woman.  I didn't really know her in school, but got friendly with her when she worked at an insurance company on Union St.  (At least I think that it was an insurance company.)  I would always stop in to see her when I went to the First Federal Bank, which was almost next door.  Always enjoyed talking with her.  May her soul rest in peace.

Marsha- you sat in front of me in Mrs. Bentley's English class. You were so kind & friendly to me even though I was the shyest kid on the block. I so remember you & Jose goofing around & laughing. A real joie de vivre.! I am sure you are the life of the party in heaven. Hugs  Peter Hawes

From B.B. Winslow to NBHS we were classmates for all those years.  Always quite and a nice person.  Lost touch with her when I left New Bedford.  May she rest in peace, until we meet again.
