We were the best of friends at NBHS, his grandmother lived across the street from us on the corner of Rural and Allen St., so we saw each other often outside of school. When we volunteered for the USMC we were both told we were to heavy to get in. He lost the weight and went to boot camp, I didn't. God bless him.
I remember Tommy from Roosevelt Jr High. I remember him as a great guy. He served his country in a time that it wasn't popular to do so...God Bless him.
"Farze" was a great friend. It seems that so many of our high school days were spent together. It began with our ROTC involevment. But we continued beyond that. I remember his days with the Marine Corps. He later married Nancy and enrolled at SMU, where he became president of his fraternity and where he drafted me to serve as the group's "legal counsel." He and I also served together in the Army National Guard. Through it all, there were many parties, many great memories. I also remember his becoming ill from what I am convinced is one of our regrettable legacies from Viet Nam. I'm so sorry he's gone.
Tom was a great person. He filled in at the last minute to be a groomsman at my wedding, when someone dropped out. I visited Tom several times when he was in the hospital (prior to his death) and we spent time talking about old times. Will always remember Tom and his bride.
Tom was my cousin and friend; he enlisted in the Marine Corps with me; boot camp was very tough on him but he never quit trying to be a US Marine, and a fine one he became. rest in peace Tom, keep the streets of heaven safe. Semper Fi
When I think of NBHS, I think of "Farze" We were good friends & spent much time on the phone & double dated often. Actually we triple dated to the Senior Prom. I ran into him when he was ill and he told me about the Agent Orange. That was pretty hush hush then. He passed away shortly after. They say the good die young & he was one of the good ones. I think of him often and smile.
Part of the "South End" gang. Tom was one of the best! When he was in 'Nam he asked me to look after his brother Teddy(and his band). That was sooo long ago.
TOM WAS ONE OF MY SOUTH END BUDDIES, HE AND I THOUGHT THE SAME DORING THAT TIME ABOUT VIETNAM HE HAD THE BALLS TO JOIN THE MARINES,I DIDN'T BUT KNEW WHEN I JOINED THE AIR FORCE I WAS GOING THERE TOO. AS IT TURNED OUT I DID GO AND ENDED UP, IRONICALLY, WITH A MARINE SHAPERONE IN 68 AFTER TET. EVEN TODAY I TALK LIKE AN OLD MARINE. SEMPER FI TOMMY! I DIDN'T DIE FROM AGENT ORANGE YET, BUT I HAVE MANY THINGS DERIVED FROM IT (RECENTLY DIABETES). I REALLY MISS TOM,THINK OF OUR CHILDHOOD OFTEN. AGAIN SEMPER FI TOM!
The "Farze" was a great person and always had an upbeat personality and sense of humor. He was a lot of fun to be with and around. He was one of the people that I spent a lot of time with in and out of school. I think of him often and will always remember him fondly. Terrible what wars do to those we are close to!
I have always felt a little sad that my friend and classmate, Thomas "Farze" Ferreira 's name was listed in the Deceased Year Unknown section of those of us who have passed. Thomas Ferreira, Sgt, USMC, passed away on February 2, 1980 after serving 3 years, 11 months and 29 days of which over 1 year was spent "In Country". "Farze" was one of the estimated 2.4 million men and women who were exposed to Agent Orange in and around Viet Nam. Sorry I was so late, old buddy. Rest in Peace. TPM
