Robert Haskell

I stayed in NB till 1969, after I was married we moved to Wareham and have been there for 40 years. Moving to Wareham was a god sent for me because it was the begining of my career in the fire service.

I went to work for the Wareham Fire Department as a call firefighter, this gave me the experience I would need to become a career.

In January of 1977 my son Patrick was born, from the day he arrived I knew he would follow in my foot steps in the fire service, I was right on the money. In 1979 I got the opportunity to go career and never looked back.

In 1983 I became a part time instructor for the Mass Firefighting Academy, I was involved in the training of recruit firefighters and teaching in fire departments all over the State of Mass. I was able to complete my education and get my degree in my career field. I still work for the Academy today only now I run a training division for them.

Patrick became a career firefighter in 1995. One of the best things I have ever done was pin his badge on him and welcome him into the brotherhood of the fire service. Pat became an Academy instructor in 1999 and works with me in the training of recruits, he will be a Chief someday. Pat has a great family, great wife and 2 beautiful children.

I retired from the fire service in May of 2002, but continued with the Fire Academy in training.

My life has been good, good family, good career, and 2 great grand kids who are my life, one of which is named Robert Haskell (another one).

As I look back on my life and reflect would I have done it different, no way. There are 4 things that shaped me as a person, my son Pat, my career, my grand kids and 911.
