I remember Evelyn from Normandin Jr. High and New Bedford High.

Rest in Peace Evelyn.

NEW BEDFORD — Evelyn Gouveia Rapoza, age 73, of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday July 26, 2020 after a brief illness.

Born in Acushnet, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Ponte) Gouveia and a long time resident of New Bedford. After graduating from New Bedford High School in 1965, Evey balanced single motherhood and a career in the insurance industry, retiring from Vermette and Bates Insurance Agency in 2012.

Evelyn was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Touching many lives and hearts throughout her 25 years, 9 months, and 15 days of continuous sobriety.

She is survived by her daughter, Nicole Chase and her husband Brandon of Fairhaven; her brother Daniel Gouveia and his wife Sally of San Diego, Ca; her sister Dolores Ketchie and her husband Richard Sr. of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews, including her godchild Karen Taylor and her husband John of Maryland.

She was predeceased by her sister Lorraine Costa, brother-in-law Frank Costa; and a brother John Jr. who passed away in infancy.

Her Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 10:00AM in St. Mary’s Church, Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford, MA 02745. Relatives and friends are invited. Arrangements are in the care of ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745. Burial is private.

Kathleen Conway (Hickman)

I remember Evey from Normandin and from NBHS.  She was a good friend, most sincere and accepting

and always a source of comfort.  Rest in peace Evey.
