Fernando and I were classmates since junior high school (Roosevelt) through NBHS and college (SMU).  He was president of our college class and always lots of fun ... we did so many things together I cannot recount them all ... he taught for a while at NBHS and then left town  ... was in a motorcycle accident (if I recall correctly) returned and was  inviolved in a number of successful business ventures.  I will always remember him as a gentle, kind man with a heart of gold and wonderful chuckle ... I'm sorry I missed him at the February lunch.

Fernando was a High School friend.  And he was a good friend to every one who knew him.  He will be missed.    Rest in Peace.

I remember Fernando as a guy with class.  Quiet, nice a guy as you will ever meet.  Gentle giant.  May he rest in peace.

I knew Fernando from jr high and high school.  Always a gentleman even back then.  He was a successful business man, and very generous.  Never hesitated to quietly help those less fortunate.  He loved life and few people knew  of his long battle with cancer.

I was glad that I was able to talk to him at the 45th reunion.  He never forgot his roots and how little he had when he was growing up.

God has a special place for people like Fernando, RIP my friend.

Throughout the years following graduation, I ran into Fernando on various occassions.  He was always friendly,  positive, and ready to laugh.  I most recently met him this month at St. Luke's Hospital where he had been for treatment for his illness.  Despite the gravity of his situation, he wanted to know if everything was alright with my wife and myself.  He was a good person who made a difference.

Fernando was a "mensch" - a person with integrity and honor.

Fernando was everyone's friend.  He had a warm smile for everyone and very outgoing.  He was president of the Pan American Club and I was a member and remember him planning several memorable events.  I enjoyed seeing him at our 45th reunion and the classmate luncheon this past February.  Both of us were born in St. Michael, Azores and came to America in 1957.  I loved his posts on Facebook always positive and thought provoking and many times about our birthplace.  Will miss exchanging points of view on various topics on Facebook.  He will be missed.
