To: New Bedford Alumni (Graduates as well as those who attended the New Bedford Public Schools)
     This letter is to inform you that there is a new organization that has been formed – the New Bedford Alumni Association Inc. In the spring of 2012, I was working for the New Bedford Public Schools and I walked into the auditorium at the old high school on County Street and almost had a coronary. The condition of that beautiful auditorium was horrendous. When I asked what was being done about this area, I was told nothing because of all the other concerns with the other buildings in the school system. I knew something had to be done.
     During the summer of 2013, a group of people got together and formed a committee to discuss the renovation of the auditorium. The first thing that came out of this meeting was to look at who may have a connection to this auditorium. There are thousands of people who attended the “old high school” and had a study hall, lectures, rallies, or just met in there to talk. This brought about the idea of forming a non-profit organization of past students who either graduated or attended the New Bedford Public Schools which became the New Bedford Alumni Association. Our first project is to renovate the auditorium at the old High School. 
         I am attaching the New Bedford Alumni Association Membership form (see below) and I hope you will become a member. The dues are only $25.00 for a year – January to December. If you pay now, the membership will be from now through December 2015. On the membership form is also a place for a specific donation to the “Auditorium Restoration Project”. Since we are a 501 3c organization, your donation is a tax deduction. Please consider donating to this project. The committee is estimating the cost (to renovate the old auditorium) to be around $800,000. This number is an early estimate. The committee would love to have some large contributions from donors to help jump start this project.
