AUD – Minutes of March 20, 2014

The Auditorium Restoration Committee met on Thursday March 20, 2014, at the New Bedford Public Schools Administration Building on County Street.

Meeting started at 6:30 p.m.

Mike Shea welcomed everyone

Mike Shea reviewed the information that Attorney Eric Jaikes discussed at the February 27th meeting about the application process for applying for being a tax exempt organization. Mike distributed a handout on the BYLAWS for the New Bedford Alumni Association. A special thank you to Priscilla Wade for all the work she did on this. Pricilla used the template that Attorney Jaikes gave us at the last meeting and she incorporated information that would suit the needs of our organization. After a review of this form, Mike Josefek made a motion to have Atttorney Jaikes review it and submit it to be processed. This was second by Priscilla Wade. The motion passed unanimously.

A discussion was held on becoming a partner with the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts during the review of our application for receiving a tax exempt number from the state. Doug Pfeninger made a motion to join the Community Foundation group. This was second by Alice Pfeninger. The motion passed unanimously.

Mike Josefek, Chair of the Construction committee, gave a brief report on information he had on the plastering of the walls.  Due to a new way, the costs may not be as high as we had anticipated.

Due to the numbers of committee members, we did not breakout into groups, we discussed each sub-committee together.

Fundraising – some great ideas like having a wine and cheese night right in the auditorium (if we can get the approval for wine in the school building). Plan a kickoff this summer to make awareness of our group and our mission.

Grants - Once our application has been submitted, start looking and applying for some grant money. We missed the first round for the MA Cultural Council Grant, but hopefully we can get involved the next round.

Public Relations – Start working more closely with the Standard Times, radio and cable to get the public involved. The committee would like to ask Curt Brown from the Standard Times to come to our May 22nd meeting. Curt is a New Bedford Alumni and has been a supporter since this began.

New Bedford Alumni Association – Discussion on having our own website, getting on the Public Schools and the city’s website, and being on Facebook. Looking for someone that has computer knowledge to help us reach the younger generation as well as set up a data base for future members. The committee also suggested inviting Rob Tetreault, Technology Director for the New Bedford Schools to our next meeting to see if he has any suggestions in this area.

NO MEETING IN APRIL

Some of my fondest memories are at NBHS.  I would love to help in some capacity.
