Welcome to Retirement, Irene Machado Casey

Those of us who are Facebook "friends" of Bostko Casey saw the posts announcing the retirement of Irene Casey as a nurse. Since many of our classmates are not on facebook, we are sharing the post below because it's simply too precious to miss.

Irene Gloria Machado was a classmate way back at Normandin and one of those outstanding ones that I remember well. She was a member of the Junior Honor Society and nice to everyone. Back in those days, and goodness I hope I don't embarrass anyone, puberty was not an easy topic for some of us to discuss, but I clearly remember a little group of us discussing it with her. Perhaps it was foreshadowing the candy striper volunteer work and then the outstanding nursing career that was in store for her. The care and ease in  dealing with health issues was evident even then.

Irene was an outstanding student at NBHS and contributed to making the class of '65 the outstanding class that it is, in my opinion. A quick look at her picture( p. 67),  in our yearbook, tells us that she was a member of the Honor Society, Student Council and Allied Youth. She also received a German award, was in the Pep Squad, Junior achievement and (see above) nice to all and of course cheerful. She was considered quiet and nice. In those days, many of us seemed more comfortable with students from our own neighborhoods, but Irene seemed to fit in with everybody. But since then, we have all embraced our diversity and good fortune to have grown up in a great city. But at any rate, Irene has made the world a better place than it was and we are all grateful. Well done, my friend, enjoy your future and your family, and I know that you will continue with the same gusto that you've shown so far. oxxoxoxo

Hi! My name is Minnie Lou Casey and tonight I'm the guest commentator on this site because it's a special occasion...My Mother Irene is retiring from St.Luke's Hospital and the Southcoast Group after 52 years of service. So Bostko and me decided to do a thing together to tell Irene Casey how proud we our of her and how much we love her. She has been a great nurse and true professional all these years while she raised Bethany, Jamie and Jonathan Casey, helped all her friends , took care of her Mom, Irene Senechal, took care of ME, Niki, Bostko and any other living thing that came her way. Not to mention her cherished grandchildren. She even took care of Jim "Bubba" Casey! And that's a case...! So we want to say in simple words to our Matriarch and Protector for all she has done and accomplished...ARE YOU TIRED, YET!!?? ♥♥ We can talk about you all evening as you await your last day of work ~ paid, that is!! But we'd rather bark out a great big "THANK YOU" for all you've been, all you are, and for whatever your future holds. We all love and honor you. ♥♥
