Thoughts on our informal 47th class reunion cookout

So, here it was August 18, 2012, and our 47th class reunion was scheduled to take place at West Island. The emails had been sent out. Nancy Otis Cusson organized the event, reserved the hall, arranged for the food, cake, etc. Dave Medeiros, Don Gamache, and the Class of '65 jammers had a whole program set up, they practice and were ready! But oh, did it ever rain and was the sky dark and gloomy just like a line from the poem we had to read in high school by Edgar Allan Poe! But our event was planned for rain or shine, the island had a pavillion with stage, kitchen and everything.

It was so much fun to see how many people made it for the informal class event. There was Richard Desrosiers from Texas! Peter Pappas and his wife, Kathryn, Jan Chartier; Konstantine Yankopulus and I made it from Florida. Ray Ferreira came all the way from Arizona just to share an afternoon with our classmates. Many of the locals like Linda Cory Medeiros and her ladies; Ilene, Milley, Jane, Stanley, Dave M, Bob Feingold, Rita, Rick Cote and so many others were there. I loved to bounce around the room and say hello. Thanks to Amelia, Linda Caulkins and Sue for patiently looking at my Portugal vacation photos. Donna L who divides her time between Florida and Mass. was there, not looking a year older!   Wasn't it great to see Roseanna Camioni looking so well!    Don't we all look great!  Never mind adding, "for our ages."  The food was plentiful and Nancy along with Linda and Terry served us. Everyone was very friendly and for the most part, we didn't need to check name tags.

And then the music! Thanks to our jammers, the song book was fabulous and it included "Margaritaville." Well, try to keep me in my seat for that one! It's so amazing how good they sounded and I could picture some of them playing at our class day banquet. (Our talented classmates, p. 175 in our yearbook.) It was great to see Jim Casey and then Nancy get up to the Mike and sing their hearts out! It was fun to say to Henry's granddaughter as well as Rick D's grandson that I knew their grandfather when they were in junior high and high school. Oh, my gosh, how time flies! To those who were there, it was wonderful, to those who couldn't make it, I hope to see you next time!

Meanwhile, if you have a moment, look over the posted pictures on the 47th Reunion photos page, as well as the jammers page. I know more pictures will soon be posted. Below is my personal tribute to our cookout in the rain.

Sung to the tune of the Christmas time song "Let It Snow"
(You can you tube it, if you forgot the tune)
yeah, and it works if you hold on to some notes or rush them, I love that song and if you do too, I hope I didn't ruin it for you. I love to piggyback some of the great songs!

The weather outside was dreadful,
But inside was so delightful,
It was class reunion time again,
So let it rain, let it rain, let it rain.

Oh, how I loved to see, faces from so long ago.
We ate, drank, smiled,
and sang,
when the guys, our own guys put on their show.

The party was slowly dying,
And soon we were all good-byeing,
I know I'll miss you so,
But it's time to go, time to go, time to go!

The sky finally was clear,
And Nancy I ask, my dear,
Can we all do it again,
Do it again, once again come next year?
*****
Thanks, to all,
Love, Maria
